The village itself is very small and so no transport is needed. However, one of the main attractions of Ballyvaughan is its location in the Burren, and transport (car or bicycle) is essential to enjoy this unique landscape fully.

The village is itself is quite pretty and there is a small picturesque harbour. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, on a drive south into Burren, via either the R480 or the N67. The views from Corkscrew Hill, on the N67, are particularly impressive. The Aillwee Caves, located just off the R480, are are worth a visit as is the Poulnabrone dolmen.

There isn't a lot to 'do' in Ballyvaughan (it's a place to 'be' really) with the only tourist attraction as such being the Burren Exposure exhibition - it also houses a shop and café. The O'Brien Castle at the Burren College of Art is worth a visit. There is a wealth of archaeological remains throughout the surrounding countryside. Tim Robinson's map "The Burren" is an extraordinary companion. It can be bought in the giftshop behind Spar supermarket.
• filter_dramaBuy
There are a couple of craft shops in the village. They mainly sell the usual range of stuff but Brendan's Boat sells a good range of leather-work produced by Brendan himself. There is also a pharmacy, a petrol station, and a small supermarket in the village.

Wonderful whiskey pub in the heart of the small scenic village of Ballyvaughan. Owner, Margaret, will be happy to pour and educate you on the finest whiskeys they have to offer. Green Spot and Connemara whiskeys are nice for the price. On a cold night, a hot whiskey with lemon, cloves and a cinnamon stick hits the spot. Lovely and lively pub atmosphere with music and sing-a-longs.
