    The A9 crosses Amstelveen, and offers the easiest access by car. The north of Amstelveen borders Amsterdam, and can also be reached from the A10 highway. Amstelveen does not have a train station, but can be reached by metro from the Amsterdam Zuid railway station, or by bus from Schiphol station.

    Amstelveen is relatively compact and most highlights can easily be reached by bike. The 51 metro line and 5 tram line mainly serve the eastern part of the city. When using public transport, most other parts are best reached by one of the many bus lines that interconnect at the bus station near the Stadshart central shopping center.

    A much larger forest-type park on the outskirts of the city. Access from Amstelveenseweg. Horse rental, canoe rental and an open air theatre are part of the attractions.
    *The museum has a major collection of key works by artists of the CoBrA group (1948-1951) as well as work by their Dutch contemporaries, including artists of the Vrij Beelden (1945) and Creatie (1950-1955) movements.

      Free festival on the Stadsplein with music, workshops and many Indian restaurants. Takes place around Diwali, in October.
      *In mid-November, Sinterklaas is welcomed with a festival parade with lots of music and Black Petes that distribute candy to children.

    The Tramway Museum runs a tram service from first Sunday in April, every Sunday until the last Sunday in October using vintage trams from all over Europe. The tram line is 7km long and runs from Bovenkerk (Amstelveen) to the Haarlemmermeerstation in Amsterdam, mostly along the Amsterdamse Bos. A ride along the full railway section takes about 35 minutes. Trams run every 20-30 minutes.
    *Cheese farm and clog factory offering tours and demonstrations. Also includes a large souvenir shop.

    Largest shopping center in Amstelveen, mostly indoor with a number of department stores (Bijenkorf, V&D, Hema) and many fashion stores (including Zara, Timberland, Van Gils, SuperDry, H&M and Esprit).

    Aan de Poel has a large terrace overlooking the sunset over lake De Poel. The interior is modern stylish with chandeliers and a partly open kitchen. It serve French International food and has been awarded 2 Michelin stars. Attracts a crowd of business people and culinary aficionados, making it not very formal.
    *De Jonge Dikkert is an atmospheric restaurant in an old windmill (1672) serving a French-International menu. It strives to source 80% of its ingredients in the Netherlands. The restaurant also has a large terrace.
    *Atmospheric restaurant in an old gun powder factory, serving innovative french cuisine.
    *Japanese restaurant with a traditional interior including low tables. Very wide selection of Japenese dishes including sushi, sashimi, yakitori and agemono.
    *Hidden in a residential neighborhood, this is an authentic Italian restaurant which is very popular with the locals
    *A lively wine bar serving many wines by the glas, as well as daily specials.
