The Stadsmuseum (City Museum) has a variety of items telling the tale of the city of Almelo, with a focus on the 1880-1960 era. You can view paintings and photos, as well as tools and toys. Follow the signs "Stadsmuseum" to find the location. Accessable for wheelchairs.
*Located in Almelo city center near the Grote Kerk (Grand Church), this small cottage dating back to early 1600's is packed with character. It has a permanent collection of objects concerning textile and weaving, an industry closely knit into Almelo's history. There are regularly demostrations of old the old crafts (check the site's 'Agenda' to plan). If desired, staff can provide you with a free tour.

Almelo based company Bolletje is Holland's most famous producer of breakfast products and biscuits. Located in the small building where the company was born, it features a small café and a shop with all possible (seasonal) products from the producer. Additionally, the store hosts a small museum about the history of Dutch bakeries. The whole experience will truly bring you back to the charms of baking as it was done in grandmother's time.
Churches
*The oldest piece of building in the city, the Grote Kerk (Grant Church) his choir was build in 1493. The ship can be dated back to 1738. On saturdays between 15.00 and 16.00 there are guides present to answer your questions.

A yearly cycling tour in the city center. Professional teams (both male and female) compete to win this contest that has had its first run in 1983. Many people take to the streets to see local heroes and international acclaimed atheletes and the city's café are stocked with young and old enjoying a drink. Be aware that most of the city center is shut down to form the route, so sightseeing might be problematic during the tour days.
*First organised in 2003, this annual event takes places in and surrounding the city harbour. The event celebrates maritine vehicles, drawing more than 50.000 people in the 4 days it takes place. Loads of historical ships can be viewed, but modern boats are also gaining more exposure. Additionally, there are plenty of other activities for young and old, music and foodstands selling snacks and fish.

*One weekend at the end of summer, Almelo's squares are transformed into beaches and teams compete for the championship. Organised by the local volleyball club, everyone who can gather a team (and signs up on the club's page) can enter the tournament. Join in and cheer on the teams made up of the local bars employees and high school classes.

*Hof88 is a small and quirky theater, providing theater, dance, cabaret and concerts. It does not serve the large 'Broadway' shows, but rather unique productions and local artists.
